Hari kelima kami ke Kyoto. Tempat tarikan pelancong yang akan kami lawati adalah Istana Nijo. Istana ini adalah warisan nasional, terletak hampir dengan pusat kota dengan keluasan 500 m (timur-barat) x 400 m ( utara-selatan) dikelilingi parit. didirikan pada tahun 1603, sebagai tempat persinggahan bagi Tokugawa Ieyasu, Shogun pertama, pemerintahan Tokugawa. Pada tahun 1626, Tokugawa Iemitsu, Shogun ke-3 memperbaharui dan membesar bangunan yang dahulu hanya setengah dari ukuran sekarang. akan tetapi setelah Shogun Iemitsu berkuasa, istana itupun jarang dikunjungi oleh para Shogun lainnya, dan hanya sebagai lambang keagungan pemerintahan Tokugawa. Pada tahun 1867, Shogun ke-15 menyerahkan kekuasaannya di istana ini dan dengan demikian berakhirnya kekuasaan Tokugawa memasuki Restorasi Meiji.
Entrance fee sebanyak 600 yen dikenakan bagi memasuki istana ini.
